October Dog Training Schedule

Happy fall to you and your pups! If you are looking to get you dog back-to-school, this email is for you! Take a look at the exciting list of dog training classes, workshops and playgroups we will be offering in October, including our new board and train program while you are at it!

Workshops and Play Groups:

Each class will last one hour and costs $30.  Space is limited, so please call or email asap to reserve your spot. :)

Puppy Kindergarten Play Group (1 hour, bring your dog): Tuesday, 10/2 at 7 pm
Bring your new puppy to Barley’s to start them off on the right paw! Based on the AKC Puppy Star course, this class provides a whole lot of play time and socialization, with a little bit of training too. Puppies from 5-9 months of age are welcome to come, socialize, and learn how to play with other dogs under the supervision of our trainers!

Nervous Nelly Play Group (1 hour, bring your dog): Monday, 10/8 at 7 pm
Calling all shy dogs! In our Nervous Nelly playgroup, you will find ways to build confidence in your dog in order to draw them out of their shells and learn how to socialize safely in a controlled environment. From calming techniques to fun ways to build confidence and trust- you and your dog will leave with the tools to enhance your bond!

Loose-Leash Walking Workshop: Saturday, 10/13 at 12:15pm
Learn the tricks of the trade to help your dog walk more politely on leash! In our one hour Loose-Leash Walking Workshop, you will explore different “power steering” options that work for your dog and leave with a better loose-leash walker!

Ask the Trainer (1 hour, bring your dog): Saturday, 10/13 at 1:30pm
Take advantage of our one hour trouble-shooting session with Tanja.  Where you get to work on any training or behavioral challenges you are facing – from potty training to counter surfing and everything in between.  You bring the problem, she’ll provide the solution!

Pool Manners Workshop: Saturday, 10/20 at 11am-12 PM
Does your dog lose his mind when it is time to swim at Barley’s? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Come to this workshop and work on your dog’s pool manners to make swimming at Barley’s an even more enjoyable experience!

Barley’s is proud to introduce Pet First Aid and CPR training! We all know our pets count on us to keep them safe and that is why this class is perfect for all pet owners! The training is taught by lecture, demonstration and hands-on skill practice. Some of the topics highlighted in the four-hour program include Restraining Your Pet, Pet CPR, Rescue Breathing, Choking Management, Wellness Assessment, Heat Injuries, Poisoning, Bleeding Protocols, Bites, Stings and Injury Assessment

Barley’s new Board and Train program

Going on a trip and want us to train your dog at the same time? Barley’s is now offering Board and Train options!

While you are away, your dog will reside in the home of our certified trainer, Tanja,  and her pack. During the stay, your dog will learn basic manners and obedience through the use of positive reinforcement based training. You will receive a daily report card of what your dog has accomplished, daily training lessons for your dog, written notes for all commands taught to your dog, and a follow-up training session when you pick your dog up so we can train you!

Our positive reinforcement training method is fast, effective, and transfers well from the trainer to you.

Special pricing through the end of the year!

Puppy Board and Train (for dogs up to 9 months) $100 per night, 4 night minimum (2019 rate is $125 per night)

Adolescent Dog Board and Train (for dogs 9 moths to 2 years) $120 per night, 4 night minimum (2019 rate is $135 per night)

Adult Dog Board and Train (for dogs over 2 years of age) $120 per night, 4 night minimum (2019 rate is $135 per night)

Special Needs Board and Train (for dogs with severe behavioral or aggression issues) $200 per night, 4 night minimum (2019 rate is $225 per night)

◦ Working Dogs 101 (1 hour, No dogs): Thursday 9/6 at 7 pm
Do you have a dog who you know is destined to be more than a companion? In this course, we will cover the difference between Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and Emotional Support Dogs and learn about the different types of work your dog might be eligible for. In this course, Tanja, a Service Dog Trainer, will teach you everything you need to know to lead you in the right direction based on what steps you want to take next!

Nervous Nelly Play Group (1 hour, bring your dog): Saturday 9/8 at 1 pm

In this abbreviated version of our CPR & First Aid Course, you will receive important knowledge to assist your pet in a medical emergency. From bleeding protocol to what to do in the event of an accidental poisoning, you DON’T want to miss this class! Taught by our CPR trained and certified instructor, your pet will thank you for taking the time to learn skills that could potentially save a life! This class is $75. Sign up for both courses and save $10! Plus you would qualify for the CPR Certificate at the end of the series.

◦ CPR/Choking Protocol-The Basics (2 hours, No dogs): Saturday 9/22 at 3 pm

You will learn to assess your pet’s vitals, how to preform CPR, how to assist a choking pet, and much more! The following group dog training classes will begin on Saturday Sept 8th and run for 5 weeks consecutiviely. The cost is $150 for the series, each session is one hour long.

Puppy 2nd Grade: Saturdays at 10am starting 9/8
Calling all puppies and adolescents! Our Puppy 2nd Grade group training class will start up again on Saturday January 20th. This class will run for five Saturdays at 12:30 pm (our 11 am class is full) and is best suited for dogs 6-12 months old. Come join us in Puppy 2nd grade, where we begin the foundation for all things obedience. Puppies will learn basic on-leash obedience in an interactive manner, while in the company of other puppies.

Basic Obedience: Saturdays at 11:15 am starting 9/8
For dogs over 6 months old. Basic obedience is new and improved with new Barley’s trainer Tanja teaching the class. This class will cover everything your dog needs, to be the best they can be. Sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, recall, and more!

At Barley’s, our Puppy Kindergarten classes are designed to help develop socialization skills for young pups in a safe environment, while getting a head start on essential obedience skills; plus we’ll tackle those pesky puppy antics too! Class is $125 for 4 weeks. Puppies up to 6 months of age are welcome. Must be current on DAPP and Bordetella, Rabies is required at 4 months of age.

Dog Training Workshops

We have two exciting dog training workshops coming up on Saturday April 7th:

Reactive Rover: If your dog loses focus when distractions appear, this class is for you! Work with Rover in a small group setting to help build confidence and focus, while we help you fill your toolbox with strategies to make time with your dog more enjoyable! This class is designed to help your dog learn how to relax, focus and function in a distracting environment. There is a limit of 6 dogs and the class will start at 10 am. This is a one hour workshop for $30.

Loose Leash Walking: Training your dog to walk politely on a leash is a basic and essential skill, yet one of the areas humans struggle with the most. Join Tanja in our Loose-Leash Walking seminar to learn strategies to help your dog become a more polite walking companion. You will walk away from this class with a much more walkable pup! There is a limit of 6 dogs and the class will start at 11:30 am. This is a one hour workshop for $30.

Advanced Skills/Canine Good Citizen Prep Class: Saturdays at 11am starting February 24th. Come join Tanja in a class designed to help you and and your dog take your skills to the next level. Building on commands they already know, this class will help prepare you to take the Canine Good Citizen Test, as well as develop the confidence to have your dog in dog friendly public places. Class is $125 for 5 weeks. All dogs will have the opportunity to test for the CGC, CCGA, or CGCU at the end of class. Test price is included in class fee.

Rattlesnake Aversion Training: We are super excited to announce that we will be offering the rattlesnake aversion training again here at Barley’s!  Due to the retirement of our previous trainer, Web Parton, our very own Mike Parmley will be conducting the training.  Mike trained under Web during the last month he was in Utah and is looking forward to providing this service at our facility.  Please refer to rattlesnakealert.com for more information about the training and instructions on how to sign up. Tanja has built a class full of exercises such as focus, coming when called, walking politely on a leash and more in addition to fun tricks that can be used to enhance the bond between you and your canine companion. Class is $125 for 5 weeks.

Recall Workshop: Tuesday, September 19th at 7:30pm. Teach your dog to come to you, every time, even with high distractions! This workshop is building on your dog’s current recall, while adding distractions to teach your dog that your are more exciting than whatever else is around. $25 per dog.

Dock Jumping Workshop: Sunday, September 24th at 12:00pm and Wednesday, October 11th at 5:00pm. Come learn the tips and tricks to get your dog jumping from the side of the pool and gather information about the sport of dock diving and all it has to offer your dog! $25 per dog, per workshop. Choice of either one at sign up.

Off Leash Workshop: Sunday, September 24th at 1:30pm. Meet us at Parley’s Nature Preserve Trail for an afternoon walk while working on recall, boundary setting and more for your off leash pup with a Barley’s Trainer right next to you every step of they way. Workshop is $25 per dog.

4 on the Floor Workshop: Thursday, September 28th at 7:30pm. Jumpers wanted! Does your dog greet new people with their feet instead of their nose? This workshop will help your dog learn that keeping all 4 feet on the ground is more rewarding that jumping on people or counters! Workshop $25 per dog.

Building Boundaries Workshop: Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:30pm.  As much as we love our four legged companions, sometimes we just need some space. This workshop will help you teach your dog boundaries, whether it’s to stay away from the table and not beg, stay on their side of the couch and not on top of you, learn how to wait to walk through doorways and more. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Loose Leash Workshop: Tuesday, October 10th at 7:30pm. Does your dog pull you when you’re on a walk, or when they see another dog? This workshop is built to help teach those excessive pullers learn how to walk nicely, without dragging you down the street. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Reactive Dog Workshop: Thursday, October 12th at 7:30pm. Does your dog bark at other dogs or people when they’re on leash? Are they just so excited to see other dogs or people they won’t listen to you or stay with you? This workshop is all about learning how to handle your dog when they are lunging and barking at other dogs instead of walking with you. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Social Night: Tuesday, October 17th at 7:30pm. We will be hosting a play and train group geared towards socialization with training included for adult dogs too, not just puppies! Cost is $25 per dog for the hour. All dogs will need to have passed a Behavioral Assessment at Barley’s prior to attendance. Dogs 6 months and older only please.
