Group Dog Training Classes Starting in June!

The following group dog training classes will begin on Saturday June 2nd and run for five weeks consecutively. The cost is $125 for the series, each session is one hour long.

Puppy Kindergarten: Saturdays at 10am starting June 2nd. There’s no better time to start your pup off on the right paw than right now! In fact, beginning a puppy’s education and socialization in the first few months of life is key to the successful upbringing of your furry family member. At Barley’s, our Puppy Kindergarten classes are designed to help develop socialization skills for young pups in a safe environment, while getting a head start on essential obedience skills; plus we’ll tackle those pesky puppy antics too! Class is $125 for 5 weeks. Puppies up to 6 months of age are welcome. Must be current on DAPP and Bordetella, Rabies is required at 4 months of age.

Basic Obedience: Saturdays at 11:15am starting June 2nd. For dogs over 6 months old. Basic obedience is new and improved with new Barley’s trainer Tanja teaching the class. This class will cover everything your dog needs, to be the best they can be. Sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, recall, and more! $125 for 5 weeks.

Barley’s is proud to introduce Pet First Aid and CPR training! We all know our pets count on us to keep them safe and that is why this class is perfect for all pet owners! The training is taught by lecture, demonstration and hands-on skill practice. Some of the topics highlighted in the four-hour program include Restraining Your Pet, Pet CPR, Rescue Breathing, Choking Management, Wellness Assessment, Heat Injuries, Poisoning, Bleeding Protocols, Bites, Stings and Injury Assessment.

Dog Training Workshops

We have two exciting dog training workshops coming up on Saturday April 7th:

Reactive Rover: If your dog loses focus when distractions appear, this class is for you! Work with Rover in a small group setting to help build confidence and focus, while we help you fill your toolbox with strategies to make time with your dog more enjoyable! This class is designed to help your dog learn how to relax, focus and function in a distracting environment. There is a limit of 6 dogs and the class will start at 10 am. This is a one hour workshop for $30.

Loose Leash Walking: Training your dog to walk politely on a leash is a basic and essential skill, yet one of the areas humans struggle with the most. Join Tanja in our Loose-Leash Walking seminar to learn strategies to help your dog become a more polite walking companion. You will walk away from this class with a much more walkable pup! There is a limit of 6 dogs and the class will start at 11:30 am. This is a one hour workshop for $30.

Building on commands they already know, this class will help prepare you to take the Canine Good Citizen Test, as well as develop the confidence to have your dog in dog friendly public places. Class is $125 for 5 weeks. All dogs will have the opportunity to test for the CGC, CCGA, or CGCU at the end of class. Test price is included in class fee.

Puppies will learn basic on-leash obedience in an interactive manner, while in the company of other puppies. Class is $125 for 5 weeks. All pups must have current vaccinations including rabies. Rattlesnake Aversion Training: We are super excited to announce that we will be offering the rattlesnake aversion training again here at Barley’s!  Due to the retirement of our previous trainer, Web Parton, our very own Mike Parmley will be conducting the training.  Mike trained under Web during the last month he was in Utah and is looking forward to providing this service at our facility.  Please refer to rattlesnakealert.com for more information about the training and instructions on how to sign up. Recall Workshop: Tuesday, September 19th at 7:30pm. Teach your dog to come to you, every time, even with high distractions! This workshop is building on your dog’s current recall, while adding distractions to teach your dog that your are more exciting than whatever else is around. $25 per dog.

Dock Jumping Workshop: Sunday, September 24th at 12:00pm and Wednesday, October 11th at 5:00pm. Come learn the tips and tricks to get your dog jumping from the side of the pool and gather information about the sport of dock diving and all it has to offer your dog! $25 per dog, per workshop. Choice of either one at sign up.

Off Leash Workshop: Sunday, September 24th at 1:30pm. Meet us at Parley’s Nature Preserve Trail for an afternoon walk while working on recall, boundary setting and more for your off leash pup with a Barley’s Trainer right next to you every step of they way. Workshop is $25 per dog.

4 on the Floor Workshop: Thursday, September 28th at 7:30pm. Jumpers wanted! Does your dog greet new people with their feet instead of their nose? This workshop will help your dog learn that keeping all 4 feet on the ground is more rewarding that jumping on people or counters! Workshop $25 per dog.

Building Boundaries Workshop: Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:30pm.  As much as we love our four legged companions, sometimes we just need some space. This workshop will help you teach your dog boundaries, whether it’s to stay away from the table and not beg, stay on their side of the couch and not on top of you, learn how to wait to walk through doorways and more. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Loose Leash Workshop: Tuesday, October 10th at 7:30pm. Does your dog pull you when you’re on a walk, or when they see another dog? This workshop is built to help teach those excessive pullers learn how to walk nicely, without dragging you down the street. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Are they just so excited to see other dogs or people they won’t listen to you or stay with you? This workshop is all about learning how to handle your dog when they are lunging and barking at other dogs instead of walking with you. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Social Night: Tuesday, October 17th at 7:30pm. We will be hosting a play and train group geared towards socialization with training included for adult dogs too, not just puppies! Cost is $25 per dog for the hour. All dogs will need to have passed a Behavioral Assessment at Barley’s prior to attendance. Dogs 6 months and older only please.

 Social Night: Wednesday August 23rd at 7:30pm. For the first time at Barley’s, we will be hosting a play and train group geared towards socialization with training included for adult dogs too, not just puppies! Cost is $25 per dog for the hour. Obedience 2.0: Saturdays at 9:30am starting May 20th. Obedience 2.0 takes you and your dog on the road to fine tune and enhance obedience skills learned in Basic Obedience. One of the main goals of this class is to “Distraction Proof” what your dog already knows, in addition to adding some new commands such as an in-motion sit, off-leash heeling, and more challenging recalls.  Our first class will be held at Barley’s and we will determine locations for the remaining classes then. Basic Obedience is a strongly suggested prerequisite to Advanced Obedience. Class is $125 for 5 weeks.

Are they just so excited to see other dogs or people they won’t listen to you or stay with you? This workshop is all about learning how to handle your dog when they are lunging and barking at other dogs instead of walking with you. $25 per dog. (As long as the weather is good, we will be meeting at the field before Tanner Park, not Barley’s. An email confirmation will be sent the day before for location.)

Dogs & Children; The Perfect Interaction: Monday, May 1st at 7:30pm. Every kid needs a dog, and every dog needs a kid who they can interact well with. Come to this seminar to get some ideas and pointers of how to help create that amazing bond between child and dog. Seminar is FREE! Please RSVP to save you spot, as space will be limited. Well behaved dogs on leash will be welcomed.

Crate Training Workshop: Monday, May 8th at 7:30pm. Teaching your pup to love their crate can be one of the most beneficial training exercises right next to sit or down, and can be utilized for the entirety of their lives. Crates create a den-like space for your to dog to seek comfort and stability in a world full of unknowns. This workshop will help you understand why the stigma that crating your dog is cruel is unsupported, and learn tips and tricks to help your pup learn to love their new den! Workshop is $25 per dog in attendance. If you would like to just come without your dog, cost is $10 per person.

Nosework for Fun! Workshop: Thursday, May 18th at 7:30pm. The workshop everyone has been waiting for! Come learn how to engage your dog through their sense of smell! We will cover all kinds of games and techniques to show your dog how to discover the world with their nose. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Total Recall Workshop: Tuesday, May 23rd at 7:30pm. Come learn how to teach your dog to come, every time they’re called. This workshop will cover all the essentials to help proof the behavior and command so your dog will choose coming to you over anything else. Workshop is $25 per dog.

Boredom Busters Workshop: Monday, May 29th at 7:30pm. Let’s keep those pups busy during the day when you’re at work, when there’s inclement weather outside, or they just need some down time. Boredom Busters will give you games, tips, and tricks to keep your dog busy and out of trouble while still tiring themselves out by using their brains. Workshop is $25 per dog.

 Puppy Social Hour: Tuesday, February 21st at 7:30pm. Tanja will be heading up the puppy training this month with a one-time social hour to get the pups socialized, and answer any questions you have about upcoming puppy class, potty training, crate training and more! Social Hour is $15 per puppy.

Puppy Preschool: Saturdays at 11:00am starting February 25th. For puppies up to 6 months. Tanja is excited to offer a Star Puppy Class for Barley’s clients! Puppy preschool will cover all the basics you and your pup need, as well as a social experience for them to learn dog communication and more! Class is $125 for 5 weeks.

Canine Connection: Wednesdays at 7:30pm starting February 8th. For dogs 8 months and up. Suzy knows this course will help you build a better bond with your pooch by enhancing their recall skills, adding nose work activities to their schedule (especially helpful during those cold, rainy/snowy days!) and encouraging the dogs to focus on their handler during high distraction situations. Class is $125 for 5 weeks.

Clicks and Tricks Part 1: Saturday, February 11th at 11:00am. This 2 part workshop taught by Tanja will teach you how to use a clicker to better communicate with your dog in a universal language that they will be able to understand. Part one is a basic introduction of what a clicker is, how to use it the right way. $25 per dog.

Clicks and Tricks Part 2: Saturday, February 18th at 11:00am. Now that your dog is conditioned to the clicker, it’s time to have some fun! We will teach you how to train your dog to do all sorts of amazing tricks, using the clicker to mark the exact behavior you are looking for. Clicks and Tricks Part 1 is a prerequisite to take Part 2. $20 per dog.

Boredom Busters Workshop: Monday, February 13th at 7:30pm. Help your dog ward off the winter blues by discussing and practicing activities for indoor playtime and those times your dog is home alone. Well mannered dogs are welcome to join us, please bring them on a standard leash and a collar/harness. $25 per dog.

Loose Leash Workshop: Thursday, February 16th at 7:30pm. Does your dog pull you when you’re on a walk? Leslie created this workshop to help teach those excessive pullers how to walk nicely, without dragging you down the street. $25 per dog.

Jumpers Anonymous Workshop: Thursday, February 23rd at 7:30pm Compulsive Jumpers wanted! Leslie aims to teach your dog how to greet people politely with their feet on the floor, instead of on the guests. Learn to create boundaries with your dog, and teach them a proper greeting. $25 per dog

 Don’t Move a Muscle, Stay! Workshop: Saturday, February 25th at 1:00pm. Stay means stay! In this workshop, Leslie will be teaching you how to communicate with you dog that stay means stay where you are, no matter what! $25 per dog.

 Intro to Tricks Workshop: Saturday, February 25th at 2:30pm. Sit Pretty! Roll Over! Shake! Intro to tricks will teach you the fundamentals to turn your dog into an all-star! Leslie is coming prepared with lots of treats, praise and excitement to get your dog using their brain and turn them into a trick pro. $25 per dog.

Power Steering: How Do Training Tools Work and Why? Seminar: Monday, February 27th at 7:30pm. This FREE SEMINAR is open to all who can attend. Have you ever wondered why some trainers choose harnesses over collars? Leslie, Tanja and Suzy want to show you how each and every training tool works, and why they are used for different circumstances. We will cover the use of every tool, from collars to harnesses to e-collars. The seminar is Free! Please come without your dog.
